Lobby Stair Landing | 3rd Floor Mural | The Rooftop
Opening reception | Sun, Nov 9 | 3-5p
I work in any number of materials, and at many different scales.
I find my very personal and subconscious work has its place in oils on linen, but I am drawn to the large scale of murals and how they create a space and feel, and interaction with the audience. Throughout my career as a working creative, I have worked on a variety of projects, including event creation, product display, costume and backdrop design, and floral display of all kinds. I do not configure my work to one size, medium, or material.
What I gravitate to most is walking into a space and feeling out the best way to interact and react with it to bring some art/creation and curiosity into it.
With the space at Harmon Guest House I wanted to get a little playful/cheeky and large, and harken back to folk like artistry, with banner painting, some paper mache, and block print. I wanted the images to pop out, and chose to highlight and celebrate what I love and find so near and dear: Nature and our local vegetables, fruits, and flora that thrive in our beautiful agrarian surroundings. I wanted to give them center stage and a sense of the royal treatment!
Set the Table with Art: Block Printing Workshop with Naomi McLeod
Sunday, November 16 | 2-4p
Celebrate the season of gathering with Harmon Guest House’s artist in residence, Naomi McLeod, in a special hands-on block printing workshop. Known for her playful, folk art–infused works gracing the hotel’s spaces, Naomi will guide attendees through the timeless craft of block printing—an ancient relief technique where hand-carved designs are inked and pressed to create one-of-a-kind prints on fabric or paper.
Spend a creative afternoon designing and printing bespoke pieces—perhaps a set of napkins, a table runner, or a festive tea towel—to bring art and intention to your holiday table or for a holiday gift. Enjoy connecting with Naomi as she shares her creative process, from inspiration to printmaking, and take home your handmade creation as a keepsake of the season.
